Representing Sound
Computers cannot interpret an analogue sound wave
The amplitude (height) of the sound represents volume
The closer together the waves are the higher the note
In order to store the sounds digitally, a sample is taken at regular intervals
This is known as sample rate and is measured in Hertz
How to improve sound quality
You can improve the sound quality by increasing the sample rate
Another way to improve the quality is to increase the number of bits used to represent each sound
The number of bits per sample is called the sample resolution
By increasing the sample resolution you can sample even more of the original analogue wave
