investigating the young modulus of a wire
measure the diameter of a wire
calculate its cross-sectional area
attach the wire to a clamp at the end of a table
keep the wire held across the ends of the table
attach a marker to the wire
place a metre rule underneath the wire
measure the length of the wire up to the marker
hang weights off the end of the wire
measure the new length of the wire up to the marker
calculate the extension
repeat five times
calculate the stress and strain for each weight and extension
plot a graph of stress against strain
determine the gradient of the linear part of the graph
