Mitosis & Meiosis
Steps of Mitosis:
DNA is found as chromosomes in the nucleus
Chromosomes become visible as each chromosome is copied & joined together
Nuclear membrane disappears and chromosomes line up along the centre of the cell
Chromosomes are pulled apart to opposite poles by contracting fibres
Nuclear membrane forms around each group of chromosomes & the cytoplasm divides
Two new genetically identical daughter cells are formed
Steps of Meiosis:
Chromosomes make identical copies of themselves
The cell divides twice to form four gametes, each with a single set of chromosomes
All gametes are genetically different from each other
