Political party

A political party is an organized people with similar political opinions or ideology whose major objective is to control the machinery of the government through the election voting the process.

Types of political parties

1.Mass party: the party comprises all manners of people, rich and poor, knowledgeable and illiterate etc.

2. Elite party/caucus/cadre party: this is made up of upper class and persons from influential and wealthy families. They are small but powerful.

3.Broker party: It is a party for both the rich and the poor bridging the gap between the two.

4. Charismatic party: It is formed by and evolved around a unique ad environment character that is the unit of attraction for other members

Functions of political parties

  1. Political education: they serve as agents of political education
  2. Training of political leaders: They recruit and train future political leaders for the state.
  3. Serve as link: they serve as a link between
  4. Source of unity: They unite people of different culture, language and religion by bringing them under one political umbrella.
