Prokaryotes/Eukaryotes
| Prokaryotes | Eukaryotes | |
|---|---|---|
| DNA | Circular, found in the nucleoid region | Linear, found in the nucleus |
| Internal Structures | No membrane-bound organelles | Membrane-bound organelles |
| Reproduction | Asexual | Sexual/asexual |
| Size | Smaller | Larger |
| Kingdoms | Eubacteria/archaea | Anamalia, protists, fungi, plants |
Both have:
- RNA/DNA
- Cell membrane
- Ribosome
Endosymbiotic Theory:
- That some eukaryotic organelles evolved from prokaryotes. Free-living cells like motchondia and chrolorplasts were once consumed by other cells and started living together in a symbiotic relationship.
- Became codependant
Evidence Mitochondria and Choloroplasts:
- Own DNA in small loops
- Own RIbosomes
- Reproduce independently through fission
