Systems Thinking

\

Systems thinking is the ability to understand how individual parts or elements connect and interact to accomplish the goal

 \n

  • Allows us to look at problems from a different perspective,
  • Affects all parts of the system
  • Accepts each solution can be debated
  • The impact of each trade off; minimize severity
  • Visualize and model objectives

\
Open System- has external interactions. Ex: Stovetop- heat can be lost into the air

Closed System- isolated from surrounds; allows no exterior interactions

Model Types:

  1. input
  2. output
  3. process

feedback

\
Thinking Smaller- Smaller elements and subsystems interact to achieve the goal of the system

Thinking Bigger- system interacts with other exterior systems; being able to predict the impact of other systems if change were occurring
