ENERGETICS 1.4

Enthalpy change meaning: The heat energy change measured under constant pressure

Calorimetry: The process of measuring energy released or absorbed during a chemical reaction.

Standard conditions for enthalpy change: 100KPa and 298K

Activation energy: the amount of energy needed for particles to collide with for a reaction to take place

Hess’s law: The total energy change in a chemical reaction is independent of the route by which the chemical reaction takes place as long as conditions are constant

The standard enthalpy change of formation of a compound :the enthalpy change which occurs when one mole of the compound is formed from its elements under standard conditions, and with everything in its standard state.

Symbol for enthalpy change:ΔH

Symbol for standard enthalpy change: standard enthalpy change
