Definition of Imagery

  • A word or group of words that create mental pictures in order for them to "tickle" and awaken the reader's senses and perceptions.

Types of Imagery

  • Visual: Describes what we see (colors, shapes, and sizes).
  • Auditory: Describes what we hear (noise, sounds, silence).
  • Tactile: Describes what we feel or touch (hot, cold, rough, seamless).
  • Olfactory: Describes what we smell.
  • Gustatory: Describes what we taste (sweet, sour).
