How does he show its time for bed?

• Talks about moon and stars, visual imagery (cadentia sidera) stars falling so virgil dwells on that idea. obscura luna (moons going dark)

How is Dido obsessed

• Dido is seeing and hearing Aeneas even though hes not there highlighting obsession and an absent state of mind. (auditque videtque) juxtaposed verbs + repeated ‘que’

• absens, absentem - polyptoton to exaggerate how obsessed dido is and juxtaposition highlights their separation

• solus (alone)(Dido) and vacua(empty)(house) which alludes to a typical night time setting. Dido here is quite isolated- 2 adjectives suggesting isolation

• incubat(lying) suggests tiredness and the fact that shes seeking closeness. Virgil emphasises this with enjambment

‘detinet’- detains- clinging on to Ascanius alike to how shes trying to cling on to Aeneas in carthage. More enjambment of that significant verb

infandum- so bad it can’t be spoken about- she feels she can’t speak about her love for Aeneas which suggests she feels guilty for given in to her feelings
