Integer Notes

Adding Integers

  • same signs add regularly (keep sign)

  • different signs subtract regularly (keep the sign of the digit that is larger)

Examples

  1. 41+67=108-41+-67=-108

  2. 41+67=26-41+67=26

Subtracting Integers

  • keep the first number , change the sign to addition , and make the second number positive (then add)

Examples

  1. 67(41)=26-67-\left(-41\right)=-26

Multiplying Integers

  • same signs always positive

  • different signs always negative

Examples

  1. 23=6-2\cdot-3=6

  2. 23=6-2\cdot3=-6

Dividing Integers

  • same signs always positive

  • different signs always negative

Examples

  1. 11=1-\frac{1}{1=-1}

  2. 22=1\frac{2}{2=1}
