motivation of employees; Maslow

hierarchy of needs…. Maslow believed everyone had same needs that can be organised by hierarchy.

5 levels of human needs which employees need to have fulfilled at work

bottom to top hierarchy - only once bottom level is met then the next need becomes important

business needs to offer motivators to help them fulfil each need and progress up the hierarchy of needs

criticism;
  • not everyone has same needs
  • perception of what is important will vary
  • not realistic as most will reach top of hierarchy
