motivation of employees; Maslow
hierarchy of needs…. Maslow believed everyone had same needs that can be organised by hierarchy.
5 levels of human needs which employees need to have fulfilled at work
bottom to top hierarchy - only once bottom level is met then the next need becomes important
business needs to offer motivators to help them fulfil each need and progress up the hierarchy of needs
==Maslows hierarchy of needs;==
%%self actualisatio%%n - intellectual needs, fulfilling full potential and achieving targets
%%esteem needs%% - self respect and level of status; skills and abilities are recognised
%%social needs%% - feeling wanted, sense of belonging, part of team/firm appreciated
%%safety needs%% - job security ; safe working environment
%%physical needs%% - basic needs like food, shelter
| ==Maslow level of human needs== | ==applying to business== |
|---|---|
| physical needs | acceptable pay and working conditions |
| safety needs | job security, clear job role and description, health and safety protection and insurance |
| social needs | team work, social facilities, mentoring and coaching, communications |
| esteem needs | status; job title, authority, trust, recognition of achievements |
| self actualisation | promotion opportunities, challenging work, job enrichment |
criticism;
- not everyone has same needs
- perception of what is important will vary
- not realistic as most will reach top of hierarchy
