Infrared Spectroscopy

Bonds in molecules vibrate and bend and the frequencies of these movements are within the infrared region of the electromagnet spectrum.

When organic molecules are exposed to infrared radiation in an IR spectrometer, bonds absorb radiation at characteristic frequencies.
