Female reproductive system

 

Uterus: The uterus is a hollow made of muscle and lined with the endometrium. During pregnancy the embryo implants here.

 

Cervix: The neck of the uterus. Where the sperm is deposited during intercourse.

 

Vagina: Canal that extends from cervix to the outside of the body. Receives the penis during intercourse. During birth the vagina enlarges to become the birth canal.

 

Ovaries: The 2 ovaries produce and release ova

 

Fallopian tube/Oviduct/Uterine tube: the 2 tubes extend from the ovaries to the uterus. They carry the ova down into the uterus. Fertilisation occurs here.

 

Urethra: Carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body.

 

Endometrium: The mucus membrane lining of the uterus in which the fertilised egg implants in.
