11th Grade ACS Translation Course Regulations and Guidelines

Course Overview and Purpose

  • Core Mission: The 11th Grade ACS Translation Course builds a cultural and linguistic bridge between the Bulgarian and the English locales.

In-Class Translation Assignments

  • Delivery Method and Tools: In-class translation assignments are administered using a locked-mode Google Form.
  • Content Assigned: During in-class assignments, students are assigned part of a studied text to translate directly in class.

Classwork Tables and Home Translation Guidelines

  • Pasting Target Text: Students are strictly prohibited from pasting target text into home translations, which form part of the Classwork Tables & Translations Assignment.
  • Table Structure: The Classwork Table consists of more than five rows (the statement that it has only five rows is false).
  • Final Version Column: The "Final Version" column of the Classwork Table must be filled in during class time.
  • Presenter Entry: If a student is among the presenters for a specific topic, they must write "I presented" once in the "Presenters' Translation" column of their Classwork Table.

Team Presentation Requirements and Structure

  • Speaking Time Distribution: When preparing a presentation as a group, team members must ensure that total speaking time is distributed evenly between all presenters.
  • Translation Slide: When preparing the Translation slide, the selected text excerpt must be divided for translation between all presenters.
  • Historical Context Slide: The Historical Context slide must explicitly mention the historic period that the text pertains to.
  • Plot Presentation: When presenting the plot of a novel or play, presenters should explain how it begins, highlight key twists and turns, and summarize how it ends.
  • Excerpt Summarization: When summarizing an excerpt, presenters must explicitly state its place within the novel or play from which it was taken.

Quiz Evaluation and Grading Criteria

  • Rendering Source Meaning: No points will be awarded on an open quiz question if a student fails to render the meaning of the source sentence into the specified target language.
  • Word-for-Word Translation: No points will be awarded on an open quiz question for translating a source sentence word-for-word, as literal word-for-word translation does not accurately reflect how translation works.

Final Exam Specifications and Integrity Policies

  • Penalty for Academic Dishonesty: Any student caught copying a translation from a mobile device or from another student's screen will lose 100%100\% of their final exam grade.
