Sound Waves

Sound Wave Basics

  • Sound is transmitted via sound waves.
  • A sound wave is produced when an object vibrates, causing the air around it to move back and forth.
  • The vibration of the object pushes air particles, which in turn vibrate and cause adjacent particles to vibrate, propagating the sound wave.
  • Speed of sound in air: approximately 343 meters per second.
  • Sound wave propagation: vibration of air particles.
