1905 Revolution - Bloody Sunday
In late 1904, four union members were dismissed from the Putilov Iron Works.
Father Gapon called for industrial action, 100,000 workers in the city went on strike.
Jan 1905 - group of demonstrators marched on the winter palace, led by Father Gapon.
Over 200 killed and 800 injured.
Key political figures were assassinated.
Naval mutiny of he Potemkin.
Nicholas II releases the Fundamental Laws and the October Manifesto, this creates the Dumas.
February Revolution 1917
9 Jan - 150,000 workers celebrate anniversary of Bloody Sunday.
18 Feb - Strike at Putilov
19 Feb - Bread rationing
23 Feb - International Women’s Day + workers from Putilov protest about living and working conditions
25 Feb - General strike, workers were fired on by troops, Rodzianko urged the Tsar to change
26 Feb - Duma defied Tsar’s instruction to disband. Troops join in on the general strike.
27 Feb - Petrograd Soviet formed alongside the provisional Duma. Led to dual authority and indicated that the Tsar was deemed unfit to rule.
1 Mar - Soviet Order No.1 passed, Petrograd Soviet now has total control over the military.
2 Mar - Nich II abdicates and the Provisional Government was formed to deal with the Constituent Assembly elections.
October Revolution 1917
8 Sep - Bolsheviks in control of the Petrograd Soviet. By the middle of September they also controlled the Moscow soviet.
7 Oct - Lenin returned from exile.
10 Oct - the Bolsheviks began planning for a revolution.
23 Oct - Kerensky closed Pravda and Izvestiya and a round up of leading Bolsheviks was attempted.
24 Oct - the Petrograd Soviet’s Military Revolutionary Committee began to seize power under the command of Trotsky
26 Oct - the members of the Provisional Government were arrested, except for Kerensky, who fled (later to the USA).
27 Oct - the All-Russian Congress of Soviets (sitting since 25 Oct) was informed by Lenin that the Bolsheviks had seized power.
2 Nov - the Bolsheviks had total control of Moscow.
