Chapter Overview
This chapter focuses on the formatting of text and graphics in Microsoft Word, utilizing various features to enhance document appearance. Tasks involve applying formatting techniques to text elements, utilizing the Format Painter, and managing graphical elements effectively.
Using the Format Painter
Initial Setup:
Open the file
IL_WD_3-2.docxand save it asIL_WD_3_Appointments.Format the title “East Mountain Counseling Center” using WordArt.
Set the title font size to 28 and select the second WordArt style in the third row.
Subtitle and Headings Formatting:
Change the subtitle font to 14-point italic.
Format “Our policy” in 14-point bold and italic, with a Gray, Accent 3 font color.
Use the Format Painter to copy the format from Our policy to the headings:
Five-step approach to scheduling appointments
Determining the time required for an appointment
Processing new clients.
At the end of the document, type "Last revised”; insert the current date (MM-DD-YYYY), followed by your name and the phrase “East Mountain Counseling is an affiliate of PRG Health.” Ensure a trademark symbol ( ™ ) follows Health.
To finalize the title, change the theme colors to Red Orange. Adjust the font color of the title to Red, Accent 3 and save the changes.
Working with Tabs
Format the heading “Appointment Time” under Determining…”:
Set it to bold and color it Red, Accent 3.
Select the six-line list under this heading and set tab stops at 1½”, 3¾”, and 5” marks.
Insert appropriate tabs at the beginning of each line for consistency and alignment.
Applying Borders and Shading
Border Application:
Use the Border tab to apply a ½-point width, Dark Gray, Text 2 border below the heading.
Use the Format Painter again to apply the paragraph and border settings to other relevant headings, including Our policy, Five-step approach to scheduling appointments, and Processing new clients.
Centering and Shading:
Center the Last revised… paragraph and apply Dark Gray, Text 2, Lighter 80% shading.
Add a dotted line, ½-point, Dark Gray, Text 2 box border around it before saving.
Insert a Table
Insert a table with two columns and three rows above the Processing new clients heading:
Populate this table with appointment information including client names and their respective appointment dates.
Adjust tab stops and apply a dotted line tab leader to enhance presentation.
Save changes after final adjustments.
Managing Graphics
Inserting Online Pictures:
Use Bing Image Search to find and insert mountain-related images, ensuring the use of Creative Commons for licensing.
Resize the inserted image precisely to 1.18” high and 1.78” wide, and position correctly in relation to body text.
Shapes Formatting:
Click Shapes and select a shape such as Star: 7 Points, resizing it to 1” x 1.5”.
Format, color, and position shapes correctly, ensuring they are integrated into the document appropriately.
Final Adjustments
Insert and delete rows/columns as necessary to finalize the document layout.
Utilize the SmartArt feature to depict processes in a visually engaging manner with proper formatting and color application.
Make any necessary size adjustments and ensure the document's appearance aligns with design expectations as outlined in referenced figures.
Conclude by saving all changes, submitting the document to the instructor, and exiting Word.
