0-2 months - biological noises
2-5 months - cooing and laughing
5-8 months - vocal play
6-12 months - babbling
9-18 months - melodic utterance
12 - 18 months - the holophrastic stage
single word utterances
18-24 months - two word stage
50+ words
starting to string words together
2-3 years - telegraphic stage
string together 2,3,4,5+ words
lack of function words
mainly content words like nouns
around 3 years - pre-school years
langauge starts to dramatically change
start to use conjunctions
not fluent yet and so they tend to repeat themselves and find it hard to form whole sentences
