3. Matrix

  • Area where nail plate cells are formed, nurturing new cell production.

4. Cuticle

  • Dead colorless tissue attached to the nail plate, comes from the skin above the nail.

6. Hyponychium

  • Thickened skin layer between fingertip and free edge of the nail plate.

7. Nail Folds

  • Skin folds surrounding the nail plate.

  • Sidewall: lateral nail fold overlapping the side of the nail.
