1st Corinthians 5

  1. Sexual sin

    1. Paul address talk of a sexual sin in Corinth as well

    2. That of a man with his mother in law

  2. Pride

    1. Other Corinthians were prideful and chose to ignore the sin rather than mourn the potential loss of their own

    2. Paul has righteously judged this person

    3. The sinner has been put out of the church, not to inflict evil, but to deliver his sin to Satan so that he may pay the rightful consequences of his sin without protection or comfort from the church

      1. Destruction of his flesh

    4. So that his spirit is saved

    5. Corinth’s purposeful ignorance of the sin is evil

      1. Paul says a little leaven causes the whole bread to rise

      2. A little leeway for sin causes greater corruption

    6. Leave out the leftover leaven so that they are pure

    7. Be unleavened and new, away from your old sin

  3. Paul, in a previous letter, said not to hang out with sexually immoral people

    1. Don’t expect Godly behavior from ungodly people

    2. Expect Godly behavior from your people in the church

    3. Don’t eat with the sexually immoral church people either!

    4. They judge the people outside so harshly that they ignore the people and sin inside!

    5. Judging fork found in kitchen but not cow inside living room
