  • Distinction Between Growth and Development:

    • Growth: Refers to an increase in weight or special dimensions. This can manifest as an increase in cell numbers, cell size, or the quantity of cell products.

    • Development: Involves maturation, which signifies the process of becoming older and more complex.

  • Key Developmental Milestones:

    • Facial development specifically commences in the 4th4^{th} week of prenatal development.

Periods of Prenatal Development

Prenatal development is systematically divided into three distinct periods:

Developmental Disturbances and Congenital Malformations

  • Amniocentesis (AFT), also known as an Amniotic Fluid Test, is a prominent prenatal diagnostic test.

  • Purpose: It is performed to detect chromosomal abnormalities in the developing fetus, aiding in the early identification of potential developmental issues.
