EA 30 Biomes

  • Tundra: Permafrost and Very short growing season, low primary productivity, grasses, sedges, lichens, mosses

  • Boreal: Taiga; high altitude or high latitude, just below tundra. Cold-tolerant and drought-tolerant trees that remain green year-round

  • Conifer: evergreen/ softwood (think PNW)

  • Deciduous: hardwoods, such as Oak, that lose their leaves in the winter (think East Coast forests)

  • Temperate Deciduous Forest: Well-defined seasons (hot summers, cool winters in which trees lose their leaves for winter. Hardwoods.

  • Tropical: extremely high biodiversity and little annual temperature variation; humid climate

  • Deserts:(Aridlands/drylands)Potential evapotranspiration exceeds total precipitation
