Exponential Functions

Regular Exponential functions:

y = a^x (a>1)positive exponential graph
y = a^x (a<1)negative exponential graph
y = a^-xnegative exponential graph (reflection in the y-axis)

Transforming and Transposing exponential functions:

functionpositive/negative - other notesgraph
y = a^xregular exponential graph (for reference)
y = -a^xpositive graph (unless a<1) with a reflection in the x-axis
y = ba^xb value affects the slope, b>1 steeper, 0<b<1 shallower
y = a^kxanother influence on the slope of the graph

Exponential Equations:

 let 3^x = a

a^2 = 12a - 27

0 = a^2 - 12a + 27

0 = (a-9) (a-3)

a = 9 or a = 3

solve for x from there

3^x = 9

3^
