Positive symptoms = normal behavior that is amplified
Negative symptoms = normal behavior turned dramatically down (loss of ability + enjoyment in life)
Positive symptoms
- Hallucinations
experiences that are not real or that other people don’t experience
Can effect all your senses (auditory very common + usually critical)
- Delusions
Fixed beliefs which do not match up to the way other people see the world
Broadcasting - the idea that everyone can hear your thoughts
- Disorganised thinking
Talking quickly or slowly.
Word salad - switch topics without any obvious links
Negative thinking
- Lack of motivation
- Reduced range of emotions
- Less interest in socialising + activities
- change in sleep patterns
- Cognitive experiences
Your mind is affected in a negative way
e.g cannot sustain attention, memory problems, poor decision making
