Parts of the brain & function
Motor Centers
sends messages via relay nurones thru the CNS. motor nurones in the PNS then receives the messages and send this to the relevent muscles to action movement
responsible for complex volentary motor movements
located in the fontal lobe
sends messages to muscles from brain and spinal cord
contralateral
other areas associated with movement
brain and spinal cord: coordinates movement
premotor: plans movement prior to executing it
prefonatal cortex: stores sensory info proir to movement
Somatosensory Centers
located in the front of the parental lobe next to the motor cortex. sensory info from the skin is represented here
somatosensory centers - refers tot he sensations of the body detects sensory events arising form different regions of the body
percieves touch, more sensitive body parts need a larger area of the somatosensory cortex
both hems have a somatosensory cortex, with the cortex on one side of the brain receiving sensory info from the other side of the body
Visual centers
Primary visual cortex
contralateral
has 2 visual cortices (one in each hem)
PVC is in the occipital lobe in the back of the brain
more specificaly within the primary visual cortex
individuals who have damage report no vision, awake in dreams
the visual info is transmitted along 2 pathways, one containing components of the visual feilds (shape and colour) and the other being involved in the location with in the visual feild (what is near to u)
