Constructions

To bisect is to cut into two equal parts.

The bisector of an angle is the line, segment or ray that cuts the angle into two equal parts.

The vertex of an angle is the point where the two arms of the sngle meet.

The perpendiculur bisector of a line segment cuts the line segemtn into two equal segemtns and does so at right angles to the original line segment.

Constructions

Construction 1 (Angle bisector)

Bisector of a given angle using only compass and strsight edge.

  1. Using B as vertex draw arcs to cut the arms of the angle at X and Y.

  2. Place the compass on the point X and draw an arc.

  3. With the same compass width and Y as centre draw an overlapping arc.

  4. Join this point to B.

Construction 2 (Perpindicular bisector of a segment, using only compass and strsight edge)

Construction 3

Construction 4 (Line perpendicular to a tiven line passing through a given point on the line)

Construction 6 (Division of a ljne segment into two or three equal segments without messuring)
