Source | Anything that can provide evidence about the past diary newspaper photo cartoon etc. |
Primary Source | Source created at the same time of events it describes a first-hand account by a participant or witness. Relevant to time studied contemporary. |
Secondary Source | Second hand information which was created after the events described. Might be based on a range of primary sources. e.g. history book, biography. |

Objective | Fair openminded impartial takes account of all viewpoints neutral. Balanced account. Does not favour one viewpoint. An objective source is one that is based on the facts and is not one sided or biased. Looking at all available evidence. |
Subjective | An account based on preconceived ideas opinions not open minded. My opinion. Personal viewpoint. |
Propaganda | Organised spreading of information which may or may not be true. Deliberately misleading information. Promote an ideological or political view. |
Selective | Only presenting /selecting certain pieces of information might suit a particular agenda. Other information is omitted. |
Provenance | Origins and history of source where does the source originate. Can you trace its origins its authenticity/reliability as a source. Context historical background. |
Contemporary | This describes a piece of evidence that comes from the period of time to which it relates. Modern to the time.
