Gruffydd ap llewelyn declared himself king of wales. posing a threat to king edward of englands rule. fprged an alliance with aelfgar and ransacked hereford. harold reached a peace deal. alefgaars earldom restored and land conceeded to Gruffyd. 1056: gruff defeat leofgar(bishop) harold attempt to fight against gryff failed. gryff recognised as king. 1058: more attacks from wales, allied with aelfgar and magnus(son of the king of norway) 1062: harold organised a small cavalry through the harsh welsh winter, attempted to find king at rhuddln at the river clywd, didnt find so burnt the palace. ravaged the welsh coastline. army in the south led by harold and north led by tostig. devestated land. gruffydds men delivered his head to harold. wales back to disorder. northern rebellion. Tostig earl of northumbria in 1055. brutal tactics and raised taxes and was also a sourtherner making him more unpopular. arranged for the murder of 3 local magistrates. northumbrians rose up and slaughtered tostigs housecarls and plundered his treasure. appointed morcar as earl. rebels marched south and sacked lincoln, nottingham and derby. no army was raised as harold feared it would cause civil war. and tostig was exiled to flanders
