Cruise Port and Alfama

  • Start your walking tour at the new cruise port located in the Alfama district.
  • Alfama is an old fishing neighborhood features narrow cobblestone streets that offer a charming atmosphere for exploring.

Baixa and Historic Center

  • After Alfama, proceed to Baixa, the historic center of Lisbon.
  • Streets in Baixa are more structured and possess a different ambiance than Alfama.

Chiado

  • Next, visit Chiado, known for its luxurious shopping experience and rich historical landmarks.

Direction to National Pantheon

  • From the cruise port, head across the street towards the Fado Museum.
  • Continue walking until a Y-intersection appears, with a café on the left; take the left path.
  • Climb slightly uphill until reaching a five-way intersection; look for the Alfama Portuguese Cuisine restaurant as a landmark.
  • Follow the street left that continues uphill to reach the National Pantheon.

National Pantheon

  • The National Pantheon is a seventeenth-century monument, historically a church, now a burial site for esteemed Portuguese personalities: political leaders, artists, etc.
  • Note: The Pantheon is closed on Mondays.

Mercado De Santa Clara

  • One block past the Pantheon lies Mercado De Santa Clara, a flea market open on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
  • Famous for antiques, vintage clothes, and unique finds.

Monastery of Sao Vincente De Fora

  • Next, head west to the Monastery of Sao Vincente De Fora, originally built in the November and dedicated to Saint Vincent of Saragossa.
  • The current structure dates to the 1500s and was transformed into a royal pantheon in the mid-1800s after the dissolution of monasteries in Portugal.

Exploring Hidden Areas

  • From the monastery's entrance, walk two blocks through hidden alleyways; you’ll discover local crafts shops selling pottery and handmade items.
  • This area also has bakeries and charming cafes, enhancing the experience.

Miradouros (Viewpoints)

  • Walk along the tram tracks slightly uphill to find three famous miradouros, or viewpoints:
    • Miraduro De Sao Vicente: Offers views of Alfama rooftops and the Tagus River.
    • Miraduro Das Portas Do Sol: Another viewpoint showcasing the city.
    • Traca De Julio De Castillo and Miraduro De Santa Lucia: Known for its beautiful gardens, especially bougainvillea plants, and tile art.

Miss Can Eatery

  • After enjoying the views, backtrack and take Pravesa De Santa Lucia up the hill.
  • Discover Miss Can, which specializes in canned seafood like sardines and oysters, beautifully packaged.

Castle Of Saint George

  • Continue uphill to reach the Castle of Saint George, dating as far back as the second century BC.
  • Entrance fee is €15, with amazing views overlooking the city and river.
  • Don't miss the camera obscura, which showcases a 360-degree panoramic view of Lisbon, although it can have long wait times.

Return Journey

  • On your return, take a right onto Costa Do Castello, followed by a sharp left down the stairs into lively streets with buskers.
  • Walk to Rua Do Comerso heading west to encounter the Rua Augusta Arch.

Time Out Market

  • After some exploration, continue west for about fifteen minutes to arrive at the Time Out Market.
  • This market features a variety of food vendors including seafood, pasta, and desserts, providing a vibrant dining experience.
  • You can share seating with locals and travelers, creating a communal dining atmosphere.
