How has music impacted our life

• cultural lens = music is a big part of culture

• jamaican: bashment, dancehall, etc

• music consumed from across the diaspora

• “music means access to culture” esp living in the west, detached from diaspora

• cultural exchange

• the beats, genres, tropes in general remind her of back home

• relates to the musicality rather than the words necessarily

• words transcend

• jamaican artist beats eg = familiarity, links to memories

• music can also be empowering eg reggae

• they cloned tyrone movie scifi » diff institutions used against black people

  • diff music playing affected the exposition of the people inside the club

  • music physically affected the brainwaves of the ppl inside the club

• headphones, radio, classical music etc music affects our behaviour more so, daily

• affects how we view the world

• music is central to our understanding of black culture and the diaspora
