Cannabis, THC and CBD
Oil:
We all heard the claims:
Treat anxiety
Cures Arthritis
Sooths Skin Ailments
Cures Nausea and Digestive Ailments
Clark Stanley’s Snake Oil
CBD Oil (NO, does not do all those things)
Snake oil has negative connotation
Generally means false claims
But there is a real basis for the claims of what the product did
In the 1800s, approximately 180,00 Chinese workers arrvied in the Us to help build the Transcontinental Railroad
The original snake oil came with them
Made from the fats of the Chinese Water Snake
Rich in omega-3 acids
Did reduce inflammations. So it did treat arthritis and bursitis
His oil was widely popular
It found to contain: mineral oil, 1 percent fatty oil, capsaicin from chili pepper, turpentine and camphor
Active ingredients were like Vic Vapor Rub
Other similar products followed
Most did nothing. Many were harmful
This led to the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 which made the FDA a protection agency
The problem continues:
The FDA doesn’t regulate unaltered natural products
People constantly want the safe high, the miracle cure, the exotic new sesation
Enter Ma-Huang
Ma-Huang is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb derived from EPHEDRA” sinica Stapf and other EPHEDRA: species, used to treat asthma, nose and lung congestion, and fever with anhidrosis. It contains 0.5-2.5% by weight of total alkaloids of which ephedrine accounts for 30 to 90%
In a healthy person exerting themselves by vigorous activity like dancing it is dangerous
Heart attack, stroke, irregular heartbeat, and sudden death all occured in healthy people
It was finally regulated
Today wonder drug is CBD
Due to the illegality of Marijuana at the federal level and other factors the FDA is not regulating product containing CBD made from cannabis
So again we have a flock of unsubstantiated claims just like the snake oil where we started
CBD Products:
