Measurement and Measuring Instruments

Physical Quantities

  • Definition: All quantities that can be measured are called physical quantities.

Classification of Physical Quantities

  • Fundamental Quantities: Quantities that do not depend on other physical quantities.

    • Units: The units for these quantities are called fundamental units.
  • Derived Quantities: Quantities that depend on other physical quantities.
    • Examples: density\text{density}, speed\text{speed}, and area\text{area}.
    • Units: The units for these quantities are called derived units.
