DIFFERENCES OF PROSE AND POETRY

  • Prose - has no metrical structure, uses sentences and paragraphs.

  • Poetry - Has a metrical structure and uses stanzas

SHORT STORY

-Brief narrative written in prose.

  • SINGLE PLOT - A type of plot wherein it revolves around 1 topic only.

  • A short story typically has less than 10 characters. It is very limited

TYPES OF CHARACTERIZATION

  • Direct Characterization - the author explicitly tells the traits and characteristics of a character to the reader through narration.

    Example: He was a kind man.

  • Indirect Characterization - Author shows the traits and characteristics of a character through his actions and motivations. The author doesn't explicitly tell it.

    TYPES OF CHARACTERS

  • Dynamic/Round Character- There are changes to the characters traits and characteristics throughout the story. Character development.

  • Flat/Static Character- Nothing changes or develops in the characters traits/characteristics. It is constant.
