A Classroom

Studying Vocabulary

  • People and things:
    • Operator, directory assistance, emergency service, phone card, pay phone, cordless & cellular phones.
    • Answering machine, telephone book, pager.
  • Actions using a pay phone: Pick up receiver, listen for dial tone, deposit coins, dial the number, leave a message, hang up.

Weather

  • Temperature: hot, warm, cool, cold, freezing.
  • Conditions: sunny/clear, cloudy, raining, snowing, windy, foggy, humid, icy, smoggy.
  • Weather Events: heat wave, thunderstorm, lightning, hailstorm, hail, snowstorm, dust storm.
  • It is/There is usage: It's cloudy. There's a heat wave. There's lightning.

Describing things

  • Opposites are used to describe things, like big, slow, hard, thick, full, noisy, heavy, neat, good and bad. expensive, beautiful, easy.
  • Examples of things you can open, put away, write with.

Colors

  • Basic Colors are demonstrated * Blue, dark blue, light blue, turquoise, gray, orange, purple, green, beige, pink, brown
    • Other colors listed:
      • yellow, red, white, black

Prepositions

  • Differentiation of where things are placed is given between multiple items.
    * next to, on the left, on the right, behind, in front of, above, below, on, under, between

Numbers

  • Cardinal numbers from zero to one billion are listed, along with Roman numerals
  • Ordinal numbers from fist to twentieth are shown
  • Fractions and Percents are shown
  • Measurement equivalencies are given to convert to yards, miles etc
  • Dimensions are listed as well as height, depth, width, and length.
