Honors Chemistry A - Unit 3 : The Periodic Table (Extra Notes!)

ionic radius

  • an extra thing to help w/ identifying which ion is greater, use these ideas

    • the order of ion size from greatest to smallest is: anion (-), neutral, cation (+)

    • when ordering the size of ions, first consider the charge of the ion

      • if it is an anion, it will be greater regardless of the # of electrons and vice versa

    • once the ions have been separated by charge, identify the # of electrons and sort from there
