Consciousness

Blindsight

Visual Spatial Neglect

  • Impairs the ability to attend to the side of space opposite the damaged hemisphere.

Biological Rhythms

  • Types of biological rhythms:
    • Circadian: approximately 24 hours, entrained by the revolution of the Earth.
    • Circatidal: approximately 12.4 hours, entrained by tides.
    • Circalunar: approximately 29.5 days, entrained by phases of the moon.
    • Circannual: approximately 365.25 days, entrained by seasons of the year.

Circadian Rhythms

  • Any rhythmic change that continues at close to a 24-hour cycle in the absence of 24-hour cues, including body temperature, cortisol secretion, and sleep/wakefulness.

  • Ultradian rhythms occur more than once a day.
  • In the absence of time cues, the cycle period becomes somewhat longer than 24 hours.

Daily Rhythms

Isolation Studies
