Theory

Ø  A creative and a rigorous structuring ideas, that projects a tentative, purposeful and systematic view of phenomena.

Concept

Ø  Idea formulated by the mind or an experience perceived and observed such as injustice, love, war, and disease.

Ø  It is also a plan or intention, an abstract idea

 

 

-          Theory explains ow things work while concept refers to abstract ideas about things

Proposition

Ø  Explains the relationships of different concepts

Definition

Ø  Composed of various descriptions which convey a general meaning and reduces the vagueness in understanding a set of concepts

Assumption

Ø  Statement that specifies the relationships or connection of factual concepts or phenomena

Characteristics of theory

·         Can correlate concepts in such a way to generate a different way of looking at a certain fact or phenomenon

·         Must be logical in nature

·         Should be simple but generally broad in nature.

·         Can be the source of hypotheses, for it to be elaborated

·         Contribute in enriching thr general body of knowledge through the studies implemented to validate them

·         Can be used by practitioners to direct and enhance their practice

·         Must be consistent with other validated theories, laws and principles but will leave an open unanswered issues that need to be

Nursing

Ø  Accdg. To American Nurses Association ANA “Nursing” is the diagnosis and treatment of human responses to actual or potential health problems

Ø  International Council o Nurses (ICN) Nursing encompasses “AUTONOMOUS and COLLABORATIVE care of individuals of all ages, families, groups, and communities, sick or well and n all settings. Nursing includes the promotion of health, prevention of illnesss, and the care of ill, disabled and dying people.

Ø  Henderson’s “Nursing” is to assist clients in performance of activities contributing to health, its recovery or peaceful death that clients will perform unaided, if they hold the necessary will, strength or knowledge.

Ø  ASSOCIATION of DEANS of PHILIPPINE COLLEGE OF NURSING (ADPCN) “Nursing” is a dynamic discipline. It is an Art and a Science of caring individuals, families, groups and communities geared towards promotion and restoration of health, prevention of illness, alleviation of suffering and assisting clients to face death with dignity and peace. It Is focused on assisting the client as he or she responds to health-illness situations, utilizing the nursing process and guided by ethico-moral-legal principles.
