I Peter

I Peter 2:1-3

  • Exhortation to rid oneself of negative behaviors:

    • Malice

    • Deceit

    • Hypocrisy

    • Envy

    • Slander

  • Long for spiritual nourishment: Like newborn infants desiring pure spiritual milk for growth into salvation.

  • Condition: If you have tasted that the Lord is good.

I Peter 3:8-9

  • Qualities to cultivate:

    • Unity of mind

    • Sympathy

    • Brotherly love

    • A tender heart

    • A humble mind

  • Response to wrongdoing: Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling; instead, bless, as you were called to obtain a blessing.

I Peter 4:7-9

  • Imminent end: The end of all things is near.

    • Therefore: Be self-controlled and sober-minded for prayer.

  • Love: Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, as love covers a multitude of sins.

  • Hospitality: Show hospitality without grumbling.

Philippians

Philippians 3:20-21

  • Citizenship: Our citizenship is in heaven.

  • Awaiting a Savior: We await the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • Transformation: He will transform our lowly body to be like His glorious body.

    • Power: By the power that enables Him to subject all things to Himself.

Philippians 4:6-7

  • Anxiety: Do not be anxious about anything.

  • Prayer: In everything, through prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

  • Peace of God: The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Colossians

Colossians 1:9-10

  • Prayer for believers: Praying that they may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.

  • Purpose:

    • To walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him.

    • Bearing fruit in every good work.

    • Increasing in the knowledge of God.

Colossians 2:8-9

  • Warning: See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit.

    • Basis: According to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

  • Divinity of Christ: In Him, the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily.

Colossians 3:1-3

  • Raised with Christ: Seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

  • Mindset: Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

  • New Life: For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Colossians 4:5-6

  • Wisdom: Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.

  • Speech: Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

I Peter 1:13-15

  • Preparation: Prepare your minds for action and be sober-minded.

  • Hope: Set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

  • Obedience: As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance.

  • Holiness: As He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct.

I Peter 5:5-7

  • Humility: Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

  • Exaltation: Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that at the proper time he may exalt you.

  • Anxiety: Cast all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you.

II Corinthians 9:6-7

  • Sowing and Reaping: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

  • Giving: Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

I Timothy 6:18-19
