BINOMIAL NOMENCLATURE

Binomial Nomenclature was proposed by Carl Linnaeus in 1735.

Characteristics

  • It is the unique name of an organism.

  • When printed, it is printed in italic.

  • When hand written, it is underlined separately.

  • Its Generic name comes first and starts with a capital letter.

  • It’s specific name comes second and is written with a small letter.

  • I.e Felis domesticus (binomial nomenclature of house cat).

Phylogenetic Classification is the biological classification of organisms based on their evolutionary relationship.

Taxonomy is the branch of science involved with the purpose of naming and arranging organisms into groups.

All living things are part of a hierarchy consisting of a Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus and Specie. (K eep P lates C lean O r F amily G ets S ick). With Kingdom being the largest and least specific and specie being the smallest and most specific.
