Average Velocity and Position Equations

Average Velocity Definition and Position

  • Average velocity vˉ\bar{v} is defined as: vˉ=x−x0t\bar{v} = \frac{x - x_0}{t}

  • Solving for position xx gives: x=x0+vˉtx = x_0 + \bar{v}t

Average Velocity Under Constant Acceleration

  • Average velocity vˉ\bar{v} is midway between initial velocity v0v_0 (or viv_i) and final velocity vv (or vfv_f): vˉ=v0+v2\bar{v} = \frac{v_0 + v}{2}

  • This relationship applies only if acceleration is constant.
