5/5 answer

While Sarah raises a valid point that charity does not always address the root causes of social problems, I am more inclined to agree with John that making charitable donations is one of the most effective ways for companies to improve the lives of many people. With sufficient funding, organizations can tackle pressing social problems such as food insecurity. A company could, for instance, fund local food banks or school meal programs, allowing low-income families to obtain nutritious food at little or no cost. Donations could also subsidize healthier food options, in turn making them more financially accessible. Families facing financial hardship would then no longer have to rely on fast food, which would improve their health. Sarah's proposal to prioritize responsible business practices is compelling, but donations offer an advantage that operational changes lack: flexibility. A company's own practices can only improve conditions within its industry, whereas donated money can be directed wherever the need is greatest. Therefore, corporate donations allow society to address a wide range of problems today, whether the problem is environmental damage, energy scarcity, or food insecurity.
