unit 7 flash cards
Distance – how far an object travels during its motion
2. Displacement - the change in position of an object
3. Scalar – measurements or quantities that only have a magnitude
4. Vector – measurements or quantities that have both magnitude and direction
5. Speed - Describes the distance traveled divided by the time interval during which motion occurred
6. Velocity – the displacement of an object divided by the time interval during which motion occurred
7. Acceleration - The rate at which velocity changes over time
8. Slope - is the ratio of the amount that y increases as x increases some amount
9. Weight – the force of gravity present on an object
10. Mass – The amount of matter in an object
11. Gravity - the universal force of attraction that actsbetween all matter.
12. Free Fall - The motion of an object when only the force of gravity is acting on the object
13. Friction - A force that opposes motion between 2 surfaces that are in contact
14. Inertia - The tendency of an object to resist a change in motion unless an outside force acts on the object
15. Force - An action exerted on a body in order to change the body’s state of rest or motion and has a magnitude and direction
16. Balanced Forces – When the net force acting on an object equals zero. The objects current state of motion is unchanged.
17. Unbalanced Forces – When the net force acting on an object does not equal zero, which causes the object to accelerate.
18. Net Force – The sum of all the forces acting on an object
19. Action-Reaction Pairs - forces of equal magnitude and opposite direction that act on different object
20. Momentum - A quantity defined as the product of the mass and velocity of an object
21. Conservation of Momentum – the momentum of a system is constant if no external forces are acting on the system.
