Frog Anatomy and Functions

Frog Anatomy Overview

  • Frogs are amphibians.

External Anatomy

  • External Nares (Nostrils): Used for breathing.

  • Eyes: For vision.

  • Forelimbs: Front legs.

  • Hindlimbs: Back legs.

  • Auditory Tubes: For hearing.

Internal Anatomy

  • Vomerine Teeth: Teeth located on the roof of the mouth; used for grasping prey.

  • Esophagus: Tube connecting the mouth to the stomach; transports food.

  • Internal Nares: Internal openings of the nostrils inside the mouth.

  • Tongue: Used for capturing prey.

Respiratory System

  • Sequence of Respiratory Tract:
    • External Nares → Internal Nares → Glottis → Trachea → Lungs

Digestive Tract

  • Esophagus → Stomach → Small Intestine → Large Intestine → Cloaca

Circulatory System

  • Heart Chambers:

    • Right Atrium
    • Left Atrium
    • Ventricle
  • Blood Flow:

    • The left atrium receives blood from the lungs.
    • The right atrium receives blood from the sinus venosus.
    • Both atria pump blood into the ventricle.
  • Aorta: Main artery carrying blood from the ventricle to the body.

Cloaca

  • Lies beneath the pelvic bone.

  • Serves as a general receptacle for the intestine, urinary, and reproductive tracts.

  • Functions to eliminate waste.
