Frog Anatomy and Functions
Frog Anatomy Overview
- Frogs are amphibians.
External Anatomy
External Nares (Nostrils): Used for breathing.
Eyes: For vision.
Forelimbs: Front legs.
Hindlimbs: Back legs.
Auditory Tubes: For hearing.
Internal Anatomy
Vomerine Teeth: Teeth located on the roof of the mouth; used for grasping prey.
Esophagus: Tube connecting the mouth to the stomach; transports food.
Internal Nares: Internal openings of the nostrils inside the mouth.
Tongue: Used for capturing prey.
Respiratory System
- Sequence of Respiratory Tract:
- External Nares → Internal Nares → Glottis → Trachea → Lungs
Digestive Tract
- Esophagus → Stomach → Small Intestine → Large Intestine → Cloaca
Circulatory System
Heart Chambers:
- Right Atrium
- Left Atrium
- Ventricle
Blood Flow:
- The left atrium receives blood from the lungs.
- The right atrium receives blood from the sinus venosus.
- Both atria pump blood into the ventricle.
Aorta: Main artery carrying blood from the ventricle to the body.
Cloaca
Lies beneath the pelvic bone.
Serves as a general receptacle for the intestine, urinary, and reproductive tracts.
Functions to eliminate waste.
