Lipids are your body’s energy storage, insulation, and cell wall material.
They’re the baddies who don’t mix with water (‘cause they’re too good for her).
You can thank them for your curves, your membranes, and your hormones.


💅 Basic Recipe:

Made of C (carbon), H (hydrogen), and O (oxygen)
BUT with way more carbon + hydrogen and way less oxygen than carbs.

That’s why they’re super dense in energy (they carry 9 calories per gram, vs carbs’ 4).

🍳 Triglycerides — The OG Thick Baddie

They’re made when you overdo it on carbs or fat.
Your body’s like “okay, storage time” and stacks them as adipose tissue (fat).

  • Function:

    • Store long-term energy

    • Cushion organs

    • Keep you warm (like an emotional support hoodie 🧥)

  • Fun Fact:
    Unsaturated fats (like olive oil) = liquid & heart-healthy.
    Saturated fats (like butter) = solid & stubborn.

  • 🧪 Chemical bonds → Fat types

    Fats (aka lipids) are made up of fatty acids, which are basically long chains of carbon (C) atoms with hydrogen (H) buddies hanging off them.
    How those carbon atoms are bonded decides if your fat is “saturated,” “unsaturated,” or something in between.


    🍔 Saturated fats = All single bonds

    • Every carbon is holding as many hydrogens as possible.

    • No double bonds, just nice and tight single bonds (C–C).

    • This makes the molecule straight and stackable → solid at room temp.
