I AM THAT I AM
The first thing that we must understand is Jesus came to Earth to be an accurate representation of a misrepresented God.
Our knowledge of God through Jesus - we must study Jesus to understand God.
He came to make the life of God accessible to man by reconciling man to God
John 3:16 - whosoever
The greatest need of an unbeliever is salvation
Christ is the visible expression of The invincible God, until Christ manifested no-one had seen God in His fulness. The host of the totality of God. John 1:1-3, Col 2:9
They first located the dwelling place of Christ and ABODE with Him.
Followed Jesus based off what they had heard
They grew from following Him because of what they heard to following Him to get to know Him for themselves
Followed Jesus to His dwelling place (the dwelling place of a person can tell you a lot about a person) → They abode and within that time they got to know Jesus for themselves
Changed from Rabbi to Christ → so the dimension of Jesus we know is dependent on how long we abide with Him, how intimate we are with Him and how often we seek His dwelling place
The dimension of Jesus that we know is dependent on what we are willing to believe. If you don’t believe that He is your Healer, you will not be able to experience that dimension of Him in your life. Are you willing yo believe the Word when it says Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega (an example).
Just because you follow God doesn’t mean you have a personal revelation of who He is
Matthew 16:13-15 - Who do men say that I am? You cannot use another persons personal revevlation of who Christ is as your own. Everyone’s will be different depending on the circumstances that he or she is going through (psalms 23 e.g.)
It was only Simon that has a personal revelation of Christ.
I AM THAT I AM → God is whoever you need Him to be at that moment in time
Activity Idea 2: “I AM” Roleplay
Split students into small groups.
Each group gets a situation (e.g. failing an exam, being homesick, needing healing, financial stress, friendship drama).
Their task: Present how Jesus can reveal Himself as “I AM” in that situation.
They can act, discuss, or share examples.
👉 This makes them apply the teaching to real uni life
Case Study 1: Exam Stress
Sarah is a first-year student who’s always done well in school. But at uni, the workload feels overwhelming. She studied hard for her first exam but froze in the hall, her mind went blank, and she left in tears. She’s now doubting if she’s even smart enough for uni.
👉 Where does Jesus as “I AM” meet Sarah here? How could He reveal Himself as her Peace, Wisdom, or Strength?
Case Study 2: Homesickness
David moved far from home for uni. At first, he was excited, but now he feels lonely in his flat. Everyone else seems to be making friends quickly, while he spends most evenings scrolling on his phone missing his family. He feels forgotten.
👉 How could Jesus as “I AM” reveal Himself as Companion, Comforter, or Ever-Present Friend to David?
Case Study 3: Financial Struggles
Amira’s student loan barely covers her rent. After paying bills, she often skips meals and worries about asking her parents for help because they’re already stretched. She feels embarrassed compared to her flatmates who always seem to have money for takeaways and nights out.
👉 How could Jesus as “I AM” reveal Himself as Provider or Sustainer in Amira’s situation?
Case Study 5: Uncertain Future
Rebecca is in her final year studying psychology. Everyone around her seems to have clear plans for jobs or postgrad, but she feels completely lost. The pressure makes her anxious at night, and she prays but feels like she’s not hearing answers.
👉 How could Jesus as “I AM” reveal Himself as the Way, the Truth, and the Life to Rebecca?
