Hair Growth Cycle

  • Each hair follicle has an independent cycle:

    • Some hairs grow, others rest and shed.

  • Density of scalp hairs remains stable.

Normal Shedding

  • Shedding 100-150 telogen hairs per day is normal.

Types of Hair Loss

  • Telogen Hair Loss: Normal; characterized by:

    • Club-shaped bulbs.

    • Base devoid of pigment.

  • Anagen Hair Loss: Not normal.

Identification

  • Difference in bulb shape and color aids in identifying the type of hair loss.

    • Telogen: club-shaped, non-pigmented.
