Setting
• When and where the action of a play takes place.
Conflict
● The internal or external struggle between opposing forces, ideas, or interests that creates dramatic tension.
Monologue
A long speech made by one actor
Dialogue
Spoken conversation used by two or more characters to express thoughts, feelings, and actions
Types of Drama
COMEDY
● A play that commonly has a happy ending.
● Modern comedies tend to be funny, while traditional comedies simply ended well.
TRAGEDY
● A play that does not have a happy ending.
● A form of drama exciting pity and/or fear in the audience - aimed to teach
a lesson through the protagonist’s “tragic flaw”
Blocking
The director’s planned movement and actions of the actors onstage
Project
•Increase voice or actions so that they will carry to the audience
Gesture
•Movement of separate parts of the body such as waving an arm or shrugging
the shoulders
Expression
• Physical (face and body) and vocal aspects used by an actor to convey
mood, feeling, or personality.
