SECTION 160.17. Cleaning, disinfecting, sterilization of implements

  • Disinfection- process that kill or destroys MOST
    disease producing organisms and renders the objécts for EXTERNAL use

  • EPA/Hospital grade disinfectants - Use ethyl or isopropyl alcohol, phenolics, quats, iodophors, sodium hypochlorite
    Need to follow manufactures directions for use of disinfectants


  • Used implements must be cleaned with soap and warm water (or soap and detergent), rinsed throughly, dried with a clean towel or other absorbent material, and completely immersed in an EPA/Hospital grade disinfectant for 10 mins or more, removed, rinsed, dried, and stored in a covered container

  • Implements that are intended to penetrate the skin or enter pores shall be either single-use disposable or subject to sterilization
