Ver Une Architecture

Intro

Reminders to Architect

  • As humans we are constructed to see forms in light not in darkness

  • Simple and primary forms are more appreciated as they are easy to understand

  • Engineers work along the line of good art by understanding of mathematics and geometry

  • The problems of modern construction must have a geometric solution

  • Engineers confine themselves with rules and restrictions however this also allows them to design clear, functional structures driven by strict mathematical and geometric truths that naturally evoke a powerful, graceful, and dynamic visual beauty

  • Plan evokes order and the wilfulness of the design

  • Architecture requires the necessity for order

Eyes which do not see

  • Just like innovation of cars and airplanes it started with identifying a problem and then the realisation of how to approach this problem.

  • Houses are just like machines and need to have a problem identified and efficiently fit its purpose to deal with that problem.

    • the house is a machine for living in

  • Standards are what allows architecture to operate in logic

Architecture

  • The business of architecture is to establish emotional relationships with raw materials

  • Architecture made well can evoke emotion and create tangible relationships

  • Plan starts from within to without where exterior is the result of interior

  • Using elements of light and dark void and solid help form a space

  • Design for the person and their journey/interaction with architecture not just large scale programmes

Creation of the mind

  • Contour and profile represent the touchstone of the architect, a pure creation of the mind, and the dividing line between an artist and a mere engineer.

  • New problems have emerged and new tools have been created that are capable of resolving these problems.

    • this new idea or resolution is against the ideas of the past then it is a revolution

  • The primordial instinct of every human being is to assure themself of shelter
