Microsoft Word Formatting Essentials

Shape Formatting in Word

  • Shape Format tab appears upon inserting a shape.
  • Must select shape before formatting.
  • Options: Shape Fill, Shape Outline, Shape Effects.
  • To add text: right-click shape > Add Text.

Inserting Pictures

  • Click location in document; go to Insert tab > Pictures.
  • Select 'This Device' to choose a picture file.
  • Resize using resizing handles.

WordArt Insertion

  • Click location in document > Insert tab > WordArt.
  • Select style from gallery, replace placeholder text.
  • Adjust text fill, outline, and apply visual effects via the Shape Format tab.

Inserting Shapes

  • Go to Insert tab > Shapes, select a shape and draw by clicking and dragging.

Inserting Text Boxes

  • Insert tab > Text Box > choose desired option.
  • Can be moved freely in the document.

Inserting and Modifying Tables

  • To insert a table: Insert tab > Table > select grid or define size in Insert Table dialog.
  • To insert new rows/columns: Layout tab > Rows & Columns group.
  • For deleting: Click on cell/row/column > Layout tab > Delete options.
  • Merging cells: Select cells > Layout tab > Merge Cells.
  • Splitting cells: Select cell > Layout tab > Split Cells.

Formatting Pictures

  • Picture Format tab appears upon inserting a picture, offers:
    • Adjusting picture settings, applying styles, arranging layout.
    • Resizing and cropping options available.
